EU product rules apply to products placed on the EU market. A Chinese manufacturer or supplier may need to provide information to European customers, importers, brands or other economic operators, but responsibilities depend on the product, legislation, contracts and actor roles.
From a customer request to a reviewed product record
An EU customer requests material information for style CN-100, revision B. A supplier source record is in Chinese and covers revision A. The example is fictional; it does not establish a legal disclosure requirement.
Retain the original source wording and its reference alongside a reviewed translation where needed. Keep the customer and factory identifiers connected. Translation alone does not resolve the revision mismatch; ask the supplier for the applicable source and record the reviewer’s decision.
DPPLogic supports this preparation workflow: record product facts and evidence references, track gaps and follow-ups, review the information and export a versioned dataset. Source documents stay in your own systems. A READY label is an internal review status, not certification.
| Step | What the team records | What still requires a person |
|---|---|---|
| Define the request | Product reference, revision and the information the customer requested | Agree scope and identify the applicable product rules |
| Collect support | Value, unit, original source wording and evidence reference | Obtain the source and check that it covers the right product |
| Resolve the mismatch | An open gap, owner, follow-up and review decision | Accept or reject the evidence with a reason |
| Hand over and maintain | Reviewed product dataset exported as JSON or CSV; retained version history | Review again when the product or supporting evidence changes |
Do products imported from China need a DPP?
Answer checked:
Yes, if the product falls within an applicable EU passport requirement and its application date has arrived. Being made in China does not exempt a covered product; Chinese origin alone also does not make every product subject to a DPP.
Identify the product category, the EU-market transaction and the actual roles. The manufacturer can be established outside the EU. An ESPR importer is an EU-established person placing a third-country product on the EU market. A reseller may instead be a distributor, while own-brand selling or a compliance-affecting modification can bring manufacturer obligations.
Before placing a covered product on the market, obtain the required passport information and complete the checks for your role. An importer cannot treat an unsupported supplier assurance or an Amazon listing as evidence that required information is available.

What the EU DPP can mean for Chinese supply chains
A passport obligation may sit within an EU product rule, while the product data and evidence needed to satisfy it can originate across factories and suppliers outside the EU. Product teams should map who owns each data element, where it is stored, how it is validated and how it reaches the actor responsible for the EU-market product.
Information European customers may request
- Controlled product, model, batch or item identifiers where applicable
- Material and component information relevant to the verified product rules
- Manufacturer, facility and supplier relationships
- Declarations, test reports, certificates or technical documents with scope and version
- Traceability records at an agreed, supportable granularity
- Machine-readable exports with defined fields, formats and provenance
A practical preparation sequence
- Define the EU-facing product portfolio and responsible commercial/legal roles.
- Create bilingual field definitions and controlled terminology.
- Map supplier and factory relationships to products, materials and evidence.
- Identify source systems and reconcile identifiers across ERP, PLM, MES and customer records.
- Implement evidence review, expiry and change monitoring.
- Agree secure data-exchange and escalation processes with European customers.
Chinese-language documentation and translation
Where DPP information is prepared, reviewed or shared in Chinese, keep one Simplified Chinese source of record so values do not drift between versions. Regulatory translations should remain visibly unverified until human and regulatory review. A translated value is not a verified value: record the source document, who translated it and the review state alongside it.
Choose who owns the workspace and the review
The manufacturer may run its own workspace, or its customer may coordinate the preparation and request supplier answers. Agree who pays, who supplies information and who reviews it. Receiving a supplier response link does not make the supplier a paying workspace customer.
Free includes up to five products, one seat, evidence references, human review and JSON/CSV exports. Professional and Business add catalogue import, secure supplier response links, optional independent review by a second team member, bulk work and audit export; Business provides the same tools at higher limits.
Textiles/apparel and iron/steel requirement packs support preparation; the battery pack remains at research stage. DPPLogic does not publish passports or QR codes, automatically email suppliers, or certify compliance.
